Lexi Berard Therapist

Hi, I’m Lexi.

I’m a psychotherapist serving California-based clients virtually and in person. I specialize in helping people uncover their unconscious patterns so they can live they life they’re meant to live.

I completed my traineeship at Airport Marina Counseling Service serving adults and teens in a community setting. I’m currently seeing clients in private practice with Life After Birth, an organization dedicated to supporting people with the transition into parenthood. I also support individual clients in addiction recovery at Stairway Resource Center in Woodland Hills. I’m trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Gottman Method, LGBTQIA+ affirmative therapy, perinatal mental health and mood disorders, psychodynamic theories, and trauma-informed modalities.

Before becoming a therapist, I spent over 10 years working with advertising agencies as a project manager, digital marketer, and brand strategist. I wanted to find a way to help people instead of just businesses for profit. In addition to helping clients with self-exploration, I also love to use my knowledge and talents from my previous career to help other therapists brand themselves so they can help the clients they’re truly meant to serve. Currently, I still flex my marketing skills as the elected Communications Chair for the Los Angeles chapter of CAMFT (California Association of Marriage & Family Therapists).

I live in Los Angeles with my husband, our son, and our corgi named Archie.

Who I Serve

My clients are often professionals with a goal of “having it all” or are in a time of significant personal transformation. If you’re anything like me, you were raised in a high achievement family where things were expected to go well — you may have even been expected to be “the best”. You might be feeling frustrated that, despite trying really hard or having all the tools, something just doesn’t feel quite right. It could be in your career, your relationships, your finances, or maybe you’re on the brink of a big life change that feels overwhelming, like entering marriage or parenthood or changing your career. These life events often push the boundaries of our current identities and challenge our sense of who we are.

There may be an internal dialogue that is nagging at you to be “perfect”, which somehow leads to feeling undeserving and unworthy — and maybe even sensations of depression or anxiety. I’m here to tell you that these are normal, human experiences and emotions that, until processed, can affect us in ways we might not even be able to fully understand. I help my clients dig deep to find the root of where they’re feeling stuck, frustrated, or unseen. I’m here to support you on this journey.

My Approach

My therapeutic style is non-judgmental, supportive, and practical. I’m a psychodynamic therapist, which means that I like to work with the unconscious thoughts and motivations that are influencing our feelings and behaviors. I often describe this as working with the root of the tree of the mind, rather than pruning the branches. I am also trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), which is an evidenced-based practice that helps couples uncover and transform negative cycles that keep them disconnected.

My approach is informed by Carl Jung, Sue Johnson, the Gottmans, John Bowlby and Mary Ainsworth’s work on Attachment Styles, and Melanie Klein’s theory of Object Relations. I am LGBT-affirmative, sex positive, and support all relationship structures. I identify as an ally of the LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC communities.

Am I the right therapist for you?

Finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming, and it can be hard to know where to start and what questions to ask. Will we work well together? I hope so! But here’s a bit more about me and how I work to help you decide:

Probably, if you…

  • Prefer a less structured, more exploratory approach

  • Want to explore relationship issues in a lot of depth

  • Want to know how your childhood or past experiences have impacted you

  • Want to know how to manage any distressing symptoms or behaviors and what’s causing them

  • Need support in exploring and experiencing emotions

  • Are willing to be introspective and do the work in sessions to look inward

  • Are seeking a longer-term therapeutic relationship

Possibly not, if you…

  • Want to only work on your behaviors — you don’t want to explore what’s causing them

  • Only want to be in therapy for a few sessions

  • Need a therapist who takes insurance

I’m ready when you are!

Schedule a free 15 minute phone consultation with me today so we can get to know each other. I look forward to meeting you.
